In-Home Pet Hospice Consultation: What to Expect

When your pet enters later stages of life, it can be difficult to know what’s best for them (and by extension, their human family!) At QOL Veterinary we do not just rely on our extensive veterinary care background; we take into account the individual circumstances of the pet and their home environment.

Wondering what this means for you and your pet? read below to find out more.

Here’s how the process works:

At your initial consultation, we will conduct a Quality of Life Assessment for your pet and come up with a tailored plan. Hospice care which is a comprehensive assessment and plan following a terminal diagnosis, quality of life assessment or your decision that things aren’t going well and palliative care is warranted or desired.

Hospice care can include the following services:

  • Assess current levels of pain and quality of life
  • Evaluation of your pet’s disease and if there are other treatment options that can be considered
  • Review of relevant medical records from other Veterinary professionals
  • Comprehensive nutritional plan and environmental enrichment recommendations
  • Institution of pain management or palliative care with in-home injections and oral prescriptions for ongoing care
  • Continued communication via text, phone and email, for as long as you elect care
  • Prepare you for the emotions in your pet’s last chapter of life
  • Provide coping tip resources for your family
